Phlox mould?

 Does anyone know what this brownish fudge like stuff is on both sides of phlox leaves?

    Fleurisa, it is quite 3 dimensional, not just a discolouration of the leaf and you can pick it offimage

    Caterpillar droppings?  If there is no discoloration on the opposite side of the leaf to each blob, then it's probably not a rust which tend to discolour on one side and produce a fruiting body on the other side (usually the bottom.) 

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    I am going to spray my phlox next year when I spray my roses to see if this makes a difference. Phlox mould is a common problem for me. Does the "chelsea chop" help?
