Problem with rose flower

Hello, I have a problem with a rose in the garden, not sure what the name of the rose is. The plant as a whole seems healthy, no black spot, planted in quite heavy clay soil, shady border up against a wall. But the flower doesn't look healthy like the rose I took the cutting from. I've attached a couple of pictures for you to see. I do use fungus control spray too. Any clues on what's causing this?

  • Sometimes when a flower gets wet from lots of rain the outer petals can then dry out and become crispy stopping the flower from opening properly. If this is it you can remove the crispy outer petals and it should then open up

  • checked on it again just now, the pictures I uploaded before were taken 2 days ago, so I just took a couple now.

The petals didn't feel crispy or like they were sticking the flower closed, but I suppose the rainy weather a little while ago might have caused problems maybe? I think the mildew might be closer to the mark though on this occasion. If the mildew is on the bud leaves, could it cause the centre of the flower to rot?

  • James that looks like plain old weather/rain damage. The cool and wet period we had in august has done similar damage to emerging buds in some of my customers gardens. I can't see any mildew damage on the second pictures, so I wouldn't worry too much. Cut the stem back by 6-9 inches and you may get another flower before the frosts come. It doesn't need spraying.

  • Edd I was referring  to James' initial comment on him using a fungal control spray, when it's perfectly healthy, nothing you said or suggested.
