Nepenthes

I know, Nepenthes is not a garden plant, but I hope someone here knows: my Nepenthes is racing towards the ceiling, but isn't producing new pitchers! Is this normal or am I doning something wrong?

It's in a cool bedroom, i keep it moist and do not feed it.

  • The pitchers on the plant now were already there when I bought it.

  • I've not grown them, so this is a bit of intuition - the lower part of the plant where it has pitchers is in much brighter light than the upper part which is in shadow - I wonder if it needs a certain amount of light to produce pitchers?

I found this http://www.growcarnivorousplants.com/Articles.asp?ID=266 which you may have read, but it does say that different varieties vary in their requirement for light - do you know which sort yours is?

  • Thank you Dove. I believe it's a highlander, so I will try to put it in a brighter spot.image
