When to give up on my caulis?
in Fruit & veg
Hive everyone, I am in desperate need of some advice! I planted some cauliflowers that I bought from the garden centre as plugs a good couple of months ago; they have been netted off against the butterflies and seem relatively unbothered by slugs etc. There are nice and robust but there is no sign of a head forming yet. The leaves in the centre of the plant remind me of celery leaves in colour, size and texture. My question is - am i being impatient?! The instructions that came with gave no idea of time scale. Or have they had it and should I cut my losses? Thanking you in advance

There are two types of cauliflowers, summer and winter cropping.
If you bought them a couple of months ago I imagine that they're the winter cropping type

Thanks Dovefromabove - they are a variety called 'White Excel'. I just noticed the label says harvest from June - first frosts. Looks like I am being terribly impatient?!
The attached site is interesting http://myfolia.com/plants/339-cauliflower-brassica-oleracea-botrytis-group/varieties/128547-white-excel
If you scroll down you'll see that it suggests White Excel take 151 days from sowing to harvest ............ but remember it's unlikely that your plants have read the instructions
