Chinese dogwood

What's anyone's experience with Chinese dogwood, is it slow growing, does the plant need to reach maturity before flowering, when should it be pruned?

Fairly slow growing. About 5m high and spread after 25 years. Flowers well even when young. I only prune out dead branches.(usually at the bottom)

Mine was about 7-8 foot high and the same wide this year. I cut it back a bit after flowering.

  • Iv just bought one about 5ft tall, don't know how old it is but cost £70, I'm guessing from the price its got to be a few years old

Give it ample room to spread. I planted easy fillers either side of this, that I didn't mind sacrificing as the Cornus got bigger.  Buddlejas and lavateras are cheap and make good temporary (5 years) fillers
