Parsnips

I grew parsnips for the first time this year - White Gem, Tender and true and Countess. Whilst checking for celery leaf fly damage I noticed that several stems of one White Gem were dead. Thinking that there may be disease I dug it up, even though there are two months to go before they should be ready. It was perfect, not even any canker, and weighed just under two pounds. It tasted fine although there was a large core which I didn't expect. I thought White Gem were a short rooted type! Looking forward to digging up the T+T and Countess when they are ready.
