Turnip confusion.

Hi everyone,

Im really confused as to whether you can sow turnips now or not.

I have read a couple of books I have and one says you can plant out turnips

right up until end of september but other books/mags say they are sown in early spring along with carrots, parsnips, potatoes etc

Please can anyone help with this as I have a bare veg patch, I do have some cauliflower, leek and cabbage plants to go in too so hope this is the right time for them aswell.

Hi Morph - it probable depends on when you want to eat them as they grow relatively quickly but if they get too large the texture isn't very  nice.  It may be a little too late to sow any now but no harm in trying a few seeds as the weather seems to be quite warm at the moment.  I grow just a few at a time starting in the spring and going through to late July/August.  Other forum members will have different experiences and no doubt will soon be giving you some advice.
