Hedge problem

Hi All

Myself and my husband havent long moved and we have a hedge out the front of the house.  Now our letting agent said they will sort it ..... that was 2 odd months ago but the hedge has not been cut for over 2 years!! its grown over the small wall and branching out onto the pavement. My cousin has said it needs cutting as its mainly sticks then a bit of green so he has cut it back to behind the wall and now looks like a bunch of sticks behind a wall as well as him cutting it down to 4/5 ft from 8/9 foot height wise.  Was he right to cut it back that much or am I going to be in trouble for cutting it a bit too much or shall we just dig it up?

Any advice would be great

That'll be OK then, a good haircut does it no end of good.image

You might have to wait till next season for a good greening up but it's very difficult to kill privet

It would do even better if you cut it right down to a foot, it will shoot out right from the bottom and be nice and thick all the way down.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Ill add a picture of what they have done so far just need some help first time hedge owner lol

Are you talking about the hedge or the hedgecutter nut? imageimage

It'll do the hedge the world of good Munch. It might benefit from a little water and a feed once it's been shorn. You'll be able to keep it to a nice size once it gets going. I find they grow best if they're trimmed lightly two or three times a year and it keeps them looking well   image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
