I'm a fan of Beechgrove too. I like it because it is basic stuff anyone can have a go at and not fancy, exotic stuff that only experts with specialist facilities would attempt. Mags
I feel like I've missed out for years now!! I love the combination of the presenters. The lady has a lovely soft accent. I've been watching it on my commute to work. I spotted a dog on the episode today so got my much valued pet fix! It's brill.
I'm ashamed to say that when I moved to Scotland over 35 years ago Beechgrove left me cold. Not enough about pretty flowers and too much about growing tatties in a barrel etc. How times change. I appreciate the knowledge and expertise of the presenters and now it's unmissable.
I have to agree with you Lesley. It was everything I disliked about Scottish gardens and Scottish gardening in general - Heather, Rhodies and twee, outdated bedding.
Where it scores now though, is the simple clear advice from experienced people, as you say. Even when they discuss plants I'm not particularly interested in, it's presented in such a gentle and well informed way that it's a pleasure to watch. The comparison trials are excellent for anyone trying to decide what to plant - whether flower, fruit or veg.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
