Half hardy plants.
Hi everyone-I'm a newbie to Gardeners' World.
A few days ago I bought a metre high Olive tree.
It was an impulse buy; it's laden with baby olives and I just fell
in love with it.
I ididn't read iits label until later and saw that the tree was half hardy.
What care will my tree need during the winter months?
Will it need tio come indoors?
Should I repot it? Or plant out? There arre sheltered areas in our garden.
All advice--thank you!

Half hardy means it will take some frost, but not severe temperature below freezing. Olives can take several degree's of frost down to about -5, but below that they need winter protection. I do sometimes wonder about the hardiness of olives as in Italy temperatures do get well below minus 5 sometimes for prolonged periods and they still survive, however I'd play it safe and bring them indoors or an unheated greenhouse during really cold spells. So be guided by where you are and the winter conditions you get in your area. It's not often we get prolonged cold spells, avoid frost pockets n your garden though. Containers are more sensible when growing them.
