That's surprising, nut.....they usually drop from the host plant/s to the ground about this time of year, then burrow into the soil for the winter. They then emerge as a fully developed moth in the spring.......I see loads.
Perhaps I need to crawl around under the rosebay.willow herb, my one fuchsia is barely big enough to support an EHM caterpillar
