What's my spikey plant??

Hi there,

I am new here. I inherited this plant when I moved into my new house and he was small and nice, now "Spike" is turning into a monster and I think he could be hiding my house soon...

So I need to know what he is and how do I prune him???  Spike is just too big!!

That is a very nice  Phormium Pam image

Unlikely to get much bigger in height except when it produces a flower spike, which is just that - a tall spike with small insignificant flowers. If you don't like it there, you could move it, but you could also lift and divide it into several smaller plants to put elsewhere. They'll take a couple of years to get to that height again.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks for your reply.

In that case I will leave Spike where he is as he seems happy (and not going to take over my house). My other half doesn't like Spike when he pokes his bottom as he gets out of the car though LMAO xx

Can hubby pull over a bit so the plant don't get him? I think it is lovely and the grey also the brick work compliment the chromium  beautifully.
