Lovely stick insect, do you live in Cornwall.
It might have been imported with the tree - did you buy it this year?
I don't think that is a stick insect. It looks nothing like the Unarmed one in my blackberries- except that it is green. The eyes on mine are just little dots, and she is four inches long with very thin legs. I posted a pic 22/8.
