Maybe not as good but only half the distance!  Anyway, it might be a foreign country soon.

Steve - and there's me without a renewed passport...will you still let me in? image

Perfection isn't easily achieved Steve - the effort required to get up here is worth the pain....imageimage

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Yes - I know.  I was sailing in the Firth of Clyde and around Islay and Jura in May.

Hope you enjoy it Ann. When the weather's right it's a great place to be. Lake District has a very similar climate though. I've spent many happy hours there   image

Glad you had a great time Steve. I remember you saying you were up here at that time. May's often good here and we've had very good weather through June and July too which is unusual! Autumnal colours are wonderful providing we don't get a lashing gale to strip the leaves off the trees first!  image

I was impressed by the Crinan Canal amongst other things.  I was expecting a sort of semi-industrial wasteland but it was like this:

...and I've since learned that it's known as 'the most beautiful shortcut in Scotland/Britain/Europe/the World'

Aye Steve - there's a bit more to us than Irn Bru, Nessie and deep fried Mars bars..image

Most of my 'scenic views' are a bit higher than canal level, but that's a lovely set of pix. It's not often water is as 'glass like'  as that! image

The light levels are changing and it's getting dark earlier in the evening, trees are just beginning to turn here although the cosmos are only just starting to flower - odd year and I have just started spring cleaning the house.  image

Well there's no need to go that far Forester...imageimage

Lots of trees turning here now. Rowans are beautiful with loads of berries. I love this time of year image

Not when it's chucking it down and blowing a gale though!

Scotland and England have different kinds of beauty in my humble opinion. In Scotland you are going to find the last true wildernesses in the British Isles, where you can pull over by the side of a loch and listen to total silence apart from the wind or the lonely call of a Raven. Where you won't see another vehicle for long periods of time, completely disconnected from the rest of humanity.

England by contrast is over crowded, without wanting to get political. However, though lacking the rugged beauty of Scotland,we do have our gems. The haunting beauty of the Fens, the homely rolling hills of Devon and the picture book little villages of the Peak District. Even my own Northamptonshire has its moments if you can escape the wind farms and gigantic grey warehouses.

Oh and Fairygirl - as an Englishman I really hope Scotland doesn't vote for independence,I think both countries will be the lesser for it. Just my opinion image
