Some things are going over now rosemummy, if you've fed it and it's not too wet it may be ok, but personally I think lilac do best in the ground if you have space.
that's where it's destined for but it's going to replace a mature rhododendron so wante it to get a tiny bit bigger, will it be ok in pot for another year? aqlso wanted to see blossom before i put it in
I'd agree with Dave - they're not happy in pots long term. If you can get it in the ground soon it will benefit, providing you prepare the hole well first if a rhodie's been there. What size of pot is it in? I've got several shrubs - bought last year - for instance, but I re potted into 8"/9"/10" pots in spring as they had nowhere to go at the time. They're thriving and will go in the ground soon.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
12 inch pot quite deep it'll just take some shifting the rhodo plus won't it look strange replacing an 8 foot shrub with a 2 foot one?
It will look different rosemummy, you might find you prefer it that way. I agree with Fairy and Dave, it will be better in soil.
