And me. If you do chop it, I would leave a bit of trunk to grow clematis or roses up.

Cedar isn't a native species (it's from Lebanon and surrounds) and isn't particularly valuable to wildlife.  As others have said, it's usually planted as a specimen on large country estates and does look out of place in a normal garden.  Personally, I would have it felled as you will then be able to grow a lot more plants and shrubs and increase the natural diversity which will help all manner of wildlife. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I've had a chat with our neighbour. We would both be a bit sad to see it go. Although it is big, there are dozens of similar sized trees in the immediate vicinity and it doesn't really look as out of place as the photo suggests. I am going to get a few quotes for either raising the crown or complete removal and take it from there. Once again thanks for all the advice.

An unusual tree to be growing in a domestic garden.  Had the area once been part of a large estate or parkland?  I get terribly upset when trees are felled but if it is a big problem then sadly that would probably be the only answer.  Hope you can find a sympathetic tree surgeon.
