Has lawn food killed my lawn

I had some areas on my lawn that were slightly yellowing so I watered them with Evergreen complete soluble feed, they have now turned black. Is this normal? and what can I do to retrieve it.

If it's the 'complete' product perhaps  it has a weedkiller in it  too nodlisab, so that would be killing off any moss or weeds. Does it say on the pack if it contains any?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I used evergreen complete to feed the lawn and kill the moss...the moss turns black as the pack said it would but the grass is ok....was that patch a bit mossy?

Yes it does contain moss killer but I did not have any moss on my lawn, just wanted to green it up. Why would the healthy grass turn black?

  • Was the 'spread' even?

Too much in one spot can kill the grass so its best to use a 'shaker' and try to make sure you dont go over same area twice.

That looks to me as if you have put down too much in that area, which has now killed the grass. Wait until Autumn, and then you can reseed that area if the grass is dead.

How can you lie there and think of England

  • The active ingredient for killing moss would probably be sulphate of iron.....this does have the characteristic of turning patches of moss black.

On the other hand I would rather agree with punkdoc, maybe you have used too much.

This was soluble so used a watering can.
