Granny...just checked to see about PH for echinacea...seems like neutral is best but slightly to either side does'nt seem to be a problem. I only guessing but i feel suss about the manure.
Ok - by now it's mellowed a bit so it shouldn't happen again? I forgot to mention that I moved the two original plants (that the RHS replaced) to the other side of my garden and one recovered and has grown healthy.
I shall be much more careful with many ring in future!

It's more than likely the manure, it is very rich and can burn plants roots very easily especially when its new.
