White/Pale Yellow patches on leaves - Is this sunburn/sunscald?

Hello Everyone!

I have been trying to grow some catnip inside from seed, and I am now hardening it off before moving it outside. However, having put it outside for a couple of days, and given that it's been really sunny, I'm wondering whether these white patches on it's leaves are sunburn/scald. It's spent most of it's life so far in rather sheltered conditions.

What would you have said this is? How should I go about trying to alleviate this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help! image

  • Thank you for your help pansyface! I hope this is the case. For now, I've moved it to a completely shaded area (still outside). Hopefully by giving it partial exposure to the sun it will develop resistance!

Out of interest, what would you recommend to protect it against cats? image

If you want to stop cats rolling in it, you could try inserting rose prunings - stiff lengths around 6ins long - around the plant so they stick up through the foliage.  Don't forget they're there when you're weeding though!  image  Cats will probably still nibble the ends of the stems anyway, but at least it won't disappear completely...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • My cat adored cat mint and would eat young plants down to the base if left to it.

I used some of that stiff white plastic chicken wire (fencing?) to make a collar a few inches away from the main stems.  The mint then grew through the mesh and those bits did get nibbles a bit, but the bulk of the plant grew well and tall within thereby keeping both me and the cat happy.
