Rowan Tree problems

Hi All

I am new the website but a long time fan of Gardeners' World.

I have over 100 trees here. Many different types. I have noticed that some of my Rowan trees seem to be dying and also a cotoneaster.  The leaves have died on the branch, but no sign of any disease that I can seeNot all of my Rowans and Cotoneasters are dying and the ones that have problems are not in the same part of the garden.  It has me puzzled. and ideas ?

  • Rowans can look a bit tatty very early in the autumn. If trees have been a bit stressed from lack of water (it's been a dry summer) they'll shut down unnecessary functions.

  • Thanks Joe  I hope thats all it is. I can cope with that.

Do the branches with dead leaves look as if someone had lit a fire beneath? If so this might be Fireblight which affects Sorbus and cotoneasters.  Have a look of examples of Fireblight on the internet to see if this the problem.

  • Thanks Invicta . . . I will have a look . . . its strange that is only some trees and bushes are affected or should I say its great that only SOME trees and bushes are affected. It would be disastrous if all were.
