is there such thing as a cherry tomatoe BUSH?

Hello people , a few tears ago i got given a cherry tomatoe plant, and i.got loads of fruit of them, when it finished i through it away and my friend said " why did u do that x its was a tomatoe BUSH and ot should come back every year?" is this true x iv never heard of a tomatoe BUSH ,.and haven't been able to find one since, any ideas on this,, thanks

Never heard of such a thing matthew3, you can sometimes overwinter tomato plants in the greenhouse, but really it's better to grow new each year from seed.
I think the friend misunderstood and it was a 'bush' tomato - i.e. a determinate variety and you don't take out the side shoots.

I think they are short-lived perennials but they always look totally worn out by the end of the season. The effort and heating expense of getting them through the winter wouldn't be worth it

I grow bush tomatoes and I don't overwinter them. I start with fresh seed every year. It just means they grow in a bush shape and you don't need to do all that pinching out shoots so you get trusses up the main stem. That's why they are good for hanging baskets, no staking or pinching out shoots.
I've grown suttons "sweet and neat" this year, which is a bush tomato. I don't eat them whole, but my OH has been munching them like sweeties! I put in two plants, and the other day I picked over 1lb of fruit, with more ripening as we speak.
I think I might have to give them a go - mine were wild this year, are they in a greenhouse?
I don't have a greenhouse, so my toms have to take their chances outdoors! I literally put the pots into the trough & left them to it. They are against a cream fence which gets late morning/afternoon sun, so they do get heat.
