Soil Liquefaction?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before, as I seem to have got the problem in the garden of my new build home. There is a youtube video of 'Extreme Soil Liquefaction' as an example of my exact problem, however in my case, the problem is only in 2x 1m squares of my garden.
Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it? If so how?
I was hoping to put lawn on the area where the problem occurs (about 6m from my house back door), but as the area can't be walked on, it's not really suitable.
Thanks for any help.

You have a drainage problem that needs to be investigated and resolved.
We'll need more details and photographs.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
If it is a new build then they normally come with a 10 year warranty on builder defects. if you soil is liquid then it sounds like a lot of water is getting in but then draining enough to not flood out...leaking pipe? Your builder should carry out tests and meet all costs. If it is not a leaking pipe then you may need a french drain.
The soil itself isn't liquid and i've dug down to a spade depth and it's still very crumbly (sandy soil) - it just behaves like jelly when walked on. It is a new build, so I guess I'll just need to get the builders involved - just a bit of a pain though as it means more delays to my garden being ready to use!
It's just a little strange that it's in two patches of the garden and the rest of it is ok. I'll see if I can get some photos on later.
When you walk on it can you see water come up or when you dug into it?
Can't see any water coming up when i walk on it or dig into it - the soil is still unstable though, so I guess any problem is at least two spade depths down.
Tried to take some photos during my lunch break, but it's been pouring with rain all morning, so it was underwater (small puddle) but it did seem to be drying up when I left.
