laurels and fungus

Im grateful for the reply to my last question about my laurels eg leaf spot and shot hole.. Now i have found some sort of big, soft, thick fungus on the bottom of stems which huge slugs are feeding off... can anyone tell me what it is and will it damage the laurels. More so what the cause is?

Fungus on stems is rarely a good sign. Have you got a photo?

hi thanks for your reply......no i haventt got a photo as my husband scraped it off and binned it....should it grow back i will be sure to take a photo and post it on here.... It will be sad to lose the plant as its only young
