Hello got a Photinia Red Robin cheapo in a sale. I plan to grow it just above fence height and pruned as a backdrop to the border in front of it. It does look bare around its lower half. How do I thicken it up - through pruning? If so can I prune it now or should I leave it until Spring? Advice please, I am a gardening newbie image

Thanks, excuse my ignorance but I assume you mean cut back each branch to the lowest set of leaves where new shoots are visibly starting to grow? I really am a beginner so you'll have to treat me like an idiot!
