Talkback: How to pick tulips

I just bought my first tulips and I've never heard of tulip fire.. layering in a pot...treating..spring window.. But I am wondering if my march blooms are going to last and when will they bloom next.

    I am amazed at the strength of tulips in the ground. For example, I had some very tall tulip bulbs which were planted in an area that was now going to become a path. I dug up the bulbs and planted them elsewhere, then laid a concrete path. Sometime the following year a tall red tulip had grown through the concrete and was in full bloom. How had it pushed its way through the concrete?

    The bog standard yellow and red varieties are very determined. They can withstand all sorts of conditions that the more refined varieties can't. I have a couple of red ones that  have been trailed from house to house with me as I've moved. I don't have anywhere to put them yet and they're languishing in a small pot in a handful  of rubbish soil, yet they come up every year and laugh at me! image

    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
