Is OL not a fan of 'shelled' reptiles then Philippa? That's weird they had no ill effects,I often think that about slugs. But then humans and cats can safely eat chocolate but dogs can't because there's a chemical in it they can't process image

Good point about the breeding Phillipa and i think there is something to it, i watched a show about cats that said some cats are loosing the urge to hunt. Tje dog we lost last year (also a choccy lab) would eat anything and keep going until she was very ill, had to watch her like a hawk, even when she went blind she could still get in the bin and find the string off the meat, sorry but thousands of years of instinct missed that one! Cost us a fortune at the vet image

We've an 8 month labrador puppy called Pongo.  Love him to bits.  Eats ANYTHING.  Loves to chew on ivy image,  hunts around for wisteria pods image. I go around trying to pick up and remove anything truly toxic (I'll be keeping close watch on the ricinis seeds) but there's no way I can keep everything out of his way.

But so far no sign of illness;  must be strong stomach!

Watch him Rosie, that one i was just talking about developed very serious collitis, im adamant it was all the self inflicted abuse over the years! Maybe its just a lab thing???? image

Pongo sounds gorgeous! I really want a puppy, OH has forbidden any more dogs after this one image

Urghhh......read the first line of Philippa's post, read that word and didn't read the rest image And no Fishy, huge phobia and yes I know it's silly LOL!!

my dogette (Jack Russell) eats grass in great quantities, but not every day. She does have a sensitive stomach, so I poach either chicken or lambs liver with basmati rice with a few peas. She doesn't eat anything in the garden; I never give her anything sweet to eat, so fruit doesn't appeal to her. Her favourite thing is the remains of the veg soup that I have most evenings.image

She's a hunter; in the last week she has killed 2 mice, but doesn't eat them; just as well as they may have ingested mouse poison that I have had to put in the kitchen cupboardsimage

I would love to understand what goes through their little brainsimage

No OL its not silly at all. There are so many different phobias, yours sounds perhaps not so common as some. My Mum was petrified of spiders,if there was a big house spider she would literally run outside and not come back in until I'd removed it. She would go pale and shake. I myself have anxiety about queues and social engagements,so who is the silly one now?

Phillippa - you raise some good points. However, dogs still retain many of their ancestors habits. The howling being one plus rolling in anything that stinks.Wolves would do this to disguise their own scent from potential enemies and from their prey. But it does make you wonder image
