Brown castlewellan gold tree

Hi,

I purchased a shaped castlewellan gold tree from b and q for only £10 reduced from £80.  It has lots of brown patches but I figured £10 was worth a risk.  I have repotted it and shaken off all loose leaves.  Should I cut off all of the brown patches or leave them? And can I save this?!

    I would put it in a bigger pot, somewhere semi shaded and keep it well watered and fed. Fingers crossed it will recover.
