Aubergines - or lack of!!

Hi, I just wondered if I could have some thoughts......I have 6 Aubergine plants, all in my GH, all have produced flowers that have fallen off and no fruit.

So, my question is, given that they like warmth and long hot summers and it's now the middle of August nearly and like Autumn, do you realistically think there is any chance getting any aubergines or should I just let them go gracefully to the compost bin??

Thank you image

My gut feeling is that we are now not going to have enough warm weather for the fruit to grow to anything substantial, even if the last remaining flower that I have found does produce something.....oh well, it was trial and error with these anyway, I was warned (after I bought the seeds!) that they were difficult.  That's one to cross off for next year anyway as I need the room in my GH for my tomatoes, I don't think they had enough room this year which is why they haven't done great.

It's a big learning curve image

Must admit I cheated a bit and bought them as small plants from GC. Both have got quite big but as I said now nothing. I prob won't bother again either.

Still have done well with beans, pots, peas, onions etc so not all bad image

I'm growing Amethyst which has small fruits, flowers are setting ok. The fruit grow pretty quickly one pollinated. Have you tired spraying the flowers with water or using a paint brush?

I did spray with water but then they dropped so I haven't bothered since.  The cucumbers have pollinated ok so I thought the aubergines would too image

They should be self pollinating anyway but a tickle with a paint brush should help

  • I have also got this problem, all was ok lastyear but this year just got flowers.all other plants in polly tunnel ok , so I will see what happens next year
