Whats in my Keyhole!

Hello,
As above really, I have a door handle with a keyhole to outside. Something has taken to filling it with dried up leaves, to the point where when I took the door handle off to investigate it was full to bursting with leaves!
I've emptied it now, and blocked the hole up, I'm just curious as to what it might have been!
Anyone any ideas?

Could it have been one of those solitary bees? I'm sure I'm wrong though.
Time to hang a bee hotel nearby!
Last late-summer (mid September) I noticed several of the window box fuchsias had neat circular portions of leaf removed. Over the next several days I had multiple visits from the same Leaf-cutter Bee; working steadily and ferrying its cargo away to its nest site (it always flew away in the same direction over the rooftops!). No photos, but there's always this year?
