Astrantia hasn't flowered flower

Planted two astrantia plants in a shaded woodland bed. Plants such as aster frikarti various heuchera have done really well, as have the ferns. The astrantias have just produced leaves and what looks like brown (already dead) flower buds - what have I done wrong?

How big are they and when did you plant them Woodski?
In the sticks near Peterborough
they were about 7'' high when planted last year - they are now around 18'' - i will try the water thing - it hardly stops here in the west of Somerset!
