I can't get any straw, can I use something else to store carrots?

    I've stored them layered in a box with ever-so-slightly damp sand or soil. The key is not to let them dry out. I was also told not to wash them before storage.

    thanks for the tip,I will give it a go. must be better than freezing and I will still be able to use them in salads etc. Gary.

    Straw is readily available at pet food shops as bedding for rabbits etc. but I doubt if it comes cheap enough to make it worth while.
