PAMPAS GRASS REMOVAL

I've removed a pampas grass this week and am now left with an area to level - I propose to use some good top soil to level this and the surrounding bed but before doing so I'd like some advice on 'treatment'; when the root of the pampas was lifted I found several slugs and their eggs, should I use slug pellets on the surface or dig them in? Is it best the leave the area to 'rest' for a while before digging over and applying the topsoil, then how long before new shrubs can be planted? Lots of question as usual - hope you can help. Many thanks.

Im no expert on this but i would add well rotted manure, and water well, i really wouldnt worry about the slug eggs etc, if i find any i just leave them on the surface, the birds soon tidy them up, plus they will probably dessicate.
As long as you look after the soil i wouldnt worry about resting it too much, what are you thinking of planting?
Just my opinion, but as long as your soil is in good heart there shouldnt be any problem, the pamaps wasnt diseased was it?
Thanks Bekkie - the pampas wasn't diseased, the bed was crowded so I had to choose what should go - as the pampas was always tangled with bindweed from a neighbouring garden it had to go! The removal of the grass has exposed a fair expanse of fencing..... I thought trellis and a scented climber, maybe jasmine, but open to other ideas??
Im forever chopping and changing things in the garden, not had a problem yet (touch wood!
Nice to have a bit of clear ground to go at!
