Advice for Bind Weed
Hi All, Does anyone know of a way to get rid of Bind Weed. I moved house and in the new garden there is Bind Weed everywhere. I don't like to use weed killers and have been trying to dig up what I can and dispose of it. I do try to get the roots, but am not sure if digging it out is not also helping to churn up the soil and spread the roots. It seems to grow from the smallest little broken piece of root. Has anyone every tackled Bind Weed and won or should I accept its pretty flowers and strangling nature?

Hello, this has come up recently on another thread, sorry cant recall which one, but if you use the 'search' slot by your name it will lead to many responses.
Hope this helps
Goodluck.
Suspend your misgivings about weedkiller! Get some glyphosate on it - it's very difficult to get rid of by digging.
When we moved to our last house there was bindweed all over the garden and the fences, and up over the bathroom extension and up to the bedroom windows.
We treated it with glyphosate - bruising the leaves gently first then spraying - then leaving it until it was completely died down and brown - this shows that the active ingredient has travelled back into the roots and has killed them too. We moved around this time of year and treated it immediately.
By the following spring the bindweed had gone and the garden was ready to dig over and plant. Occasionally a small tendril would appear near the boundary, but being alert and keeping the glyphosate at hand meant we could squirt it every time it appeared - it was never a problem again.
It is the only way to do it. As you surmise - digging it up is just making matters worse.
Good luck

There you go! Always sound advice here
It was the first thing that I tackled when we moved to our current house, bite the bullet and use the dreaded killer, it is the only way. I still have little visits now and again, so it is not completely gone but manageable. It took a whole season for me because there were good and established plants that needed negotiation. I followed the advice from this forum and planted bamboo for the shoots to climb then I bagged each plant then sprayed inside the bag, tied it off and left for some time, everyone in the village thought I was crazy with little plastic bags all over the garden.
Thank You to all who have replied to my message. I really appreciate all the advice.
