How do you separate these Daisies

I have these 2 clumps of Daisies, Oxeye I think, in my front garden. As you can see they are getting a bit tall and the clumps a bit large and I want to reduce the size of each clump and also transfer some of them to other parts of the garden to introduce some cover and height.
What is the best time and way of separating clumps of these for replanting elsewhere?

let them die back and dig out in clumps with a spade .thats how i do it .your going to have lots to transplant and give away
bump
Many thanks for that...I'll give it a go once they've finished...I'll have to be careful as somewhere amongst that large clump is a Peony as well as some Crocosmia, which I don't want to transfer. so some will go into the back garden and some will go into a corner between me and my neighbour
Those look like Shasta Daisies. You should be able to dig & divide during the dormant season
I think they look like Shasta Daisies, too. They can be the very devil to lift if you have heavy clay soil, as I recall from previous experience. If you have a problem dividing them, then lift them in large clumps and dunk the roots in water to wash off the soil Autumn is he best time for this, and they are pretty easy to re-plant. (I suggest autumn rather than winter btw because lots of water and cold weather is not a pleasant combination
)
I'm not sure what Daisies they are as they were there when I moved in, looking through photos I presumed they were Oxeye. As you can see they are quite tall, nearly 6ft.
They give a burst of colour during the summer but I want to add more and different colours around the garden as most of the flowers are white in colour.
You'll have to explain late Chelsea chop...I'm afraid I'm a bit of a gardening ignoramous...I presume it's to do with the Chelsea Flower show
My shastas are still looking lovely albeit they are a bit floppy, wont cut back for a few weeks yet I guess ^_^
some of the older flowers are just starting to fade.
