I have one Aubergine plant and only got one off it.. There seem to be more flowers coming not but I am worried about an early frost. Can I bring the pot inside the house to continue cropping ??
I grew Aubergine for the first time last year, pots probably a little smaller than the 8" ones mentioned and kept on windowsill upstairs in our bedroom - warmest, sunniest spot. I only got an odd small fruit but considering I didn't really know what I was doing and didn't feed them, I reckon that's good.
Thing is, I have nursed them through the winter by bringing them close to but not on the window ledge and I am wondering if I re-pot them into a bigger pot with fresh compost and actually water and feed them properly this time if I'll get a reasonable crop this year as they're already showing new growth. Something to try anyway!
As to the question re cropping over the colder weather, I suspect they'd need more heat and light inside because although I did have flowers occasionally over the winter time, they all fell without producing anything.
I gave my buddy my packet of aubergine seeds to sart them off as he has a poly tunnel,.he said the germination rate was poor only 2 plants out of about 30 seeds.. Seeing as last yeat the growing seasin was niot quite long enough so I am stealing a march on them this year... I only got 2 fruits last time on one plant. We shall see....
Christina - when your plant has more flowers, try tapping them or giving them a little shake to get the pollen to dislodge from the male parts of the flower to pollinate the female parts. You may get more fruits then
