Funny little spiders on my Dahlia

image

I have funny little black spiders with white legs crawling up my dahlia.  Are they good bugs or bad bugs?  i.e.  if they are there to eat the greefly then they can stay.

Does anybody know?

Cheers

Anne

They look more like mites than spiders to me. I would guess they are bad

Thanks for the replies folks.  If you click on the picture it will give you a zoomed in version.  Still not sure whether to remove them in case they eat the plant, or keep them in the hope they might keep the aphids away?

Actually looking at them again, maybe they are aphids, but if they are they are bloomin huge ones!

They're definitely mites, but that's about all I can say - sorry!

  • They are definitely look like black aphids to me. Have a little search on google, aphids do have little antennae and they do wander a bit. I think that mites also have 8 legs.

the legs on the critters in my photo do have white legs, they sort of continue after the black bit but you cant see them clearly.
