Evening primrose would be fine in a pot Yvie, ugly plants in my opinion but the scent is a joy! As you said they are supposed to grow in poor soil, not the muck enriched wonderlands we create!

As for the lavetera, havent a clue, just turned up, one grew in my raised bed, i never did manage to ger all the root out! image

Phygelius (Cape Figwort) tried to take over my front garden in Northumberland.  It sent runners under 15ft of groundcover fabric & popped up the other side...  On the plus side, I had success growing Gardener's Garters (horribly invasive grass, very pretty) under a huge copper beech tree, so shady that nothing else would grow.  I didn't let it escape, but it just sat there looking demure and delightful.  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

You only need to buy one and it will self seed all over.   I planted one when I first started this garden and get a couple of seedlings every year even though that bed was cleared and replanted years ago.

Obelix, I had problems growing Chinese Lanterns and really persevered; then they tried to take over the County!. it took days of digging, down to nearly 1 metre to get rid of the roots, which filled 3 sacks. That was after about 3 or 4 years of growth I think. Plant Nurseries really should warn about toxic plants and also invasive ones.

Having said that, Japanese Anemones are not invasive where I have put them; poor soil and pretty dry.
