Are they established in pots or just little? I suppose at the end of the day it depends on how reliable or willing you are to keep things in pots well watered fed etc. and/or if you have the room to put them in the ground. Me - too lazy to deal with pots so everything goes into the ground as soon as possible.

If planting in the ground a few things to remember, firstly they prefer acidic soil don't like lime so what's your soil type? Then if your remember they like to be treated almost like a woodland plant ie dappled shade out of cold winds and direct sun. If you can provide thease conditions your Acers will be better planted in the ground.
