Very nice tree?

Hi all,

Have this tree in the back garden, looks very healthy and quite attractive, reddish stems and soft green leaves with a dusty grey tinge on the reverse. Be very pleased if anyone could identify it so I might learn how to look after it - although seems to be doing OK on it's own so far. Thanks.

Is it the Judas Tree? Cercis siliquastrum.

I'm wondering about one of the cercis.

Looks like Chinese Redbud to me, too.  Here's the back of a leaf from my young Cercis chinensis 'Avondale':

Edit - after zooming in to the original pics I can see a slight serration on the edges of the leaves, so Bamboogie is probably right - a Katsuma (Cercidiphyllum japonicum.)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • If the leaves give off a faint aroma of burnt sugar, then it's a Cercidiphyllum.
  • Thank you very much I think it is a Katsuma Cercidiphyllum japonicum. Looks easy enough to look after as well - phew, one less to worry about.
