Moving established shrubs

Hope you can help me - I need to move 2 established and lovely shrubs from a garden area that is to undergo development. One lovely twisted Hazel about 7ft high and 5ft wide, and a Peony Tree which is smaller at about 5ft tall and 3ft wide.
Not really sure how large the root systems will be, but wondering if anyone has experience of doing this?

Are you hoping to move them now or sometime in the future?
Will be able to hold back from any action until later in September. I don't want to scare the poor things while their still happily growing!
