Fruit trees

We have a pear tree in our allotment, It has only produced one pear, despite being heavily flowered and some of the leaves have brown spots on them. any answers to both issues would be most welcome.

How old is the tree - how long has it been planted there?

We had a sharp frost here this spring which affected pear blossom - do you recall having frost at blossom time?

  • tree is around two years old, purchased from a garden centre, up until the last year is was kept in the original pot we bought it in. have to get a pic next time i go down to my allotment. don.t recall a frost but thats no indication there wasn,t one. image

  • it was advertised and sold to us as a self pollinating tree?

It's still a very young tree - virtually a baby - it used to be said that 'You plant pears for your heirs' meaning that they took a long while to reach fruiting age.  Whilst grafting onto better root-stocks has improved this no end, it's still very early days for your pear tree. image
