Corner needing a plant

Hi can any one help I have to replant a corner at work which is in an enclosed garden mostly shade some sun and the soil is very damp most of the year. It has been recently dug up to lay a pipe across the garden so soil very disturbed, I want to have a feature plant in the corner then I have several hostas and fuchsias to go in front. All suggestions welcome but must not cost to much.

It sounds just right for an astilbe image

Are you thinking of a shrub or a perennial? A feature plant would lend itself to a shrub. Something like a pieris, sarcococca choisya, azalea, camellia all of which are evergreen. Hydrangea and Fatsia are both deciduous. A perennial with some oomph would be a gunnera if you have the room, some of the grasses or a rodgersia.

Thinking more of a shrub /small tree. Got a Gunera out in the back garden already. It is only a small ish corner. and acid loving plants would not survive.
