New lawn

Hi all help is needed once again please we laid our turf 2weeks ago ( I no this isn't a good time but we wanted to finish our garden that we started from scratch it was all just hard core) so we are watering it like crazy & read somewhere that you shouldn't cut it for 6 weeks the thing is it's grown like crazy what with the good weather & all the watering. Should we go over it carefully with a hover mower or wait the 6 weeks we worried it would get too long so that when we did cut it then it would be in bad shape confused as we don't want to spoil our lovely lawn
