My cucumber plants are turning pale and blossome dropping off :(

I'm a newbie in gardening. i started growing the cucumber in pot this april and they were growing well.
3 weeks ago, the plants start to have male flowers buds and i have found some female flower bud since last week.
however, the many of the male flower buds drop off before it opened. And i found my plants are getting pale.
what's wrong with my plants? am i watering too much / less ? too much sunlight or too hot? Cause i'm living in HK and the average temperature during daytime is around 30C from May to July. Please help!

It's a while since I grew cucumbers, Tracychow, so I hope someone who's more expert will answer soon... but I would think it's hungry.  The pot looks rather small for the size of plant, so you could try re-potting it into fresh compost for a start.

    Thanks Liriodendron.

And i would like to know any fertilizer is good for cucumber? Is photstrogen a right choice?

  • Hi, Tracy

There are two possibilities, one is cultural the other disease.  Keep the humidity high, mist spray several times a day and (if possible) water the floor. Feed once a week with a balanced fertilizer such as liquid Growmore.

Disease could be something like Fusarium wilt, which is a fungal disease.

Hi again Tracy.  Tomato fertilizer is high in potash - to save you having to read all the labels...  image

Thanks all, i will try to feed them with fertilizer to see will it be improved.

my plant is now growing female flower and the mini "cucumber" is 1.5cm in length. i hope it's in a right size.
