What is this plant please

image

This has appeared in the past few weeks in my garden. Facing south, in clay soil. It has woody stems that snap very easily, unfortunately. The flowers have 4 petals and 4 stamens. I have a slightly better photo of a flower but I thought it might be more easily identifiable from the unusual bud shape.

That's a godetia but might now be called clarkia. A good old annual, my mum used to grow thoseimage

  • Thank you so much. I've had a quick look on google images and yes, it definitely looks like that. Unfortunately it seems that all its stems have snapped at ground level and I don't think it will grow back. I cannot see any trace of it left. What a shame! I see it can be grown from seed and I will definitely try.

    thank you again.
