..lovely close ups Kim...thanks for posting these.... only you can tell us if those leaves are sharp to the touch on the outside... you would really be needing gloves I think if it's a Pampas...they can easily cut the flesh... I note the leaves have a central midrib.. I can't recall if that is the case with Pampas... perhaps it will flower soon...looks like some thicker stems coming up there...
..yes I too think that was a good call with Pampas... as if you look at the 1st and 2nd photos of the newer ones posted above... zoom in close up... you can see the leaves have retrorse teeth - downward facing...all along the edges... typical of Cortaderia...
The leaves are VERY sharp to the touch, just like a knife edge. Yes there is one thick stalk coming up in the centre which seems to be turning into more new leaves, but with a crinkley wave to them. These pics are of the thick stalk...sorry, cant get them to load right, all i get is the 'tree' icon
..that's a flowering stem shooting up there surely.... expect a big white plume...
..I expect...whoever sent you this by mail order.. either didn't know what they were sending, or sent out the cheapest most readily available option...a fob off to put it bluntly... anything else would be a bit unusual and more expensive...
...if it does prove to be Pampas....if it was mine... it wouldn't be something I would want to keep....even the dwarf version... Pumila... can be an awkward customer if you get too close...although can look quite pretty...

It could be a Miscanthus looking at the leaves
