When to lift and how to store garlic and shallots

in Fruit & veg
I have planted garlic and shallots for the first time, and all is going well! The shallots are looking ok (not too big big not tiny) and having dug up one garlic clove it's smaller than I expected.. The leaves starting to die back, should I lift them now? Also I believe is should dry them out before storage? Is there a recommended time for this? My poly tunnel is pushing 40 degrees at the mo, is this too hot?? Also when I have dried them where is best to store them? Thanks all!

Great thank you! If I leave them in a bit longer (as it's so dry) will they deteriorate?
If they have already dried off, you might as well lift and store them now. Last week's GW shows Monty lifting his shallots and garlic, if you can catch it on iPlayer.
