Tree Planting

I have just bought a new build house which comes with a sizable garden to front side and rear something I have never had in past hence I am no garden expert, I then thought come here and speak to all you wonderful experts and you may help me, I would like to add some trees to the boundry of my front garden which backs onto some protected land(newts), I am aware that some trees are bad to plant near buildings and would love some suggestions on the best trees to plant.

We would love to incorporate colour and my wife has hinted she would like some fruit varieties maybe cherries. hope someone can help, many thanks Duane([email protected])

..I wouldn't bother with cherries, the birds will have most of them...

..these are my favourites that I've grown in the past...none would be troublesome near buildings.. although ideally I don't think trees of any sort look right too close to a house...but you have a large garden and these would be fine for boundaries..

    Sorbus 'vilmorinii'

    Sorbus 'Cashmiriana'

    Amelanchier 'Ballerina'

self fertile Apple tree on MM106 [semi dwarfing rootstock] if you want some fruit later on... but wouldn't plant it on a boundary or right next to house...needs a bit of space out in the open...

Try one of the crab apples, you can either make the fruit into preserves or leave them for the birds.
