Dead blades of grass in lawn
Hi all,
Having probs at the mo with the back garden. I've been watering the lawn in the evening maybe twice a week and have noticed a lot of dead blades of grass in the lawn (along with random lush green patches) I was wondering if anyone thinks I need to put some 'aftercut' or equivalent on there to feed the grass or do i need to get the rake out to scarify the lawn and take the dead blades out?
Don't know if this would make any difference but the lawn is a year old, wasn't laid by me and I know the earth underneath is very clay based.
Here are some pics to show the issue:

Cheers in advance

If it looks dead and dry, so be it. It will recover as soon as it rains.
Mine looks the same. I raked over it to take out the thatch at the weekend and it looks better already.
ETA: The watering has only been the past couple of weeks during the long dry spells when the grass is looking a bit stressed and the top layer of soil is dry. I'm only doing this as it's a fairly new lawn.
Anyone able to help with the actual question though?
Nice one.
Thanks for the reply Blairs. I'll crack out the rake at the weekend and give it a go to get the dead thatch out.
Cheers

I always have a rubbish lawn as the ground underneath is really hard with clay soil and lots of kids and me on it, so really trying this year. I de-thatched in spring, added feed, aerated etc yet mine still had all that dead bits of grass. My lawn mower needs a new blade as that could also be part of the problem. Taking the rake out and raking up the dead bits, keeping the mower on the top setting and watering all has helped green it up. Good luck!
