I got the white echinops from a garden centre in Uxbridge Middx, the only place I've seen the white form and not seen since. The front garden was just grass when we moved in and now its a mixture of colourful shrubs at different times of the year, spring bulbs and violets and grasses.
What if you use your brother cadfael as your starting point and then fade up or fade down through colours tones thus moving to your current fave colour as grand finale
Morning Folks, some lovely photos, Im also a fan of fleabane, my front garden is East facing so get a lot of morning sun, its also raised so is quite free draining, I have quite a few alpines in there. Here are a couple of photos, its looking a bit dry at the moment with all the hot weather.
Thanks Victoria, I only planted them this year. Underneath the gravel there is an old path and I kept twisting my ankle walking on the edge without realising. I've edged the old path with Huchera and geraniums in the hope that it will keep on the straight and narrow. Ive just cut back the lavender on the left it came early and went over quite quickly this year and I have ordered pheasant eye, and snowflake to give it some added interest in the spring. The real star of the front garden is campanula the ground covering variety (sorry dont know the name) is spills down the front steps (just out shot) and grows through the front wall. Ill take some photos next year when its in flower, although it sometimes makes a reappearance later in the year.
I like your cone shaped tree as well. I've got a small yew I was considering trying to shape when it gets older. My garden is quite floppy and I thought it might add a touch of formality.

I think I just grow so much stuff that some of it has to do well by the law of averages.
